What is Helium (HNT)?

The Helium Network allows for the creation of physical, decentralized wireless networks using a global network of Hotspots to connect IoT devices.

The network is powered by the native Helium Token (HNT). Used for rewarding miners (network participants), and to create Data Credits.

Hotspots (mining) allow network participants to provide network coverage, while also mining HNT. Hotspot nodes can be purchased or built by users.

Each device on the network requires Data Credits (DC) to send data. DC are created by ‘burning’ HNT, and used to pay all transaction fees.

Validators that participate in staking help to validate the network and increase scalability. Staking also earns rewards in the form of HNT tokens.

The network runs on a new consensus algorithm called Proof-of-Coverage (PoC). This secures the network & rewards users for validating transactions.
